Buyers scroll quickly. A photo that is dark, blurry or cluttered gets skipped no matter how nice the feet in it are. The good news is that taking feet pics that sell is mostly about a few simple habits, and none of them require expensive gear.

Start with preparation

Groomed feet photograph better. Before a shoot, moisturise, trim and file your nails, and decide whether you want bare nails, a fresh pedicure or a bold colour. Remove any chipped polish. Small details are very visible in close ups.

Light is everything

Natural daylight is the easiest way to make photos look clean and true to colour. Sit near a large window during the day, with the light falling across your feet rather than directly behind them.

  • Avoid harsh midday sun directly on your skin. It creates hard shadows and blown-out highlights.
  • Avoid overhead room lights at night. They tend to look yellow and flat.
  • Use one soft lamp if you have to shoot after dark, positioned to the side.
  • Turn off your flash. It flattens everything and adds glare.

Keep the background simple

A plain sheet, a clean rug, a wooden floor or a neutral wall keeps attention on your feet. Clutter in the background looks careless and can also reveal where you live. Check every frame for mail, photos, windows with recognisable views and anything else that could identify you.

Five angles that reliably sell

  1. The sole shot. Lie on your front with your soles towards the camera. This is the most requested angle on almost every platform.
  2. The top-down shot. Stand or sit and photograph your feet from above, toes pointed slightly.
  3. The arch profile. Shoot from the side with your foot pointed to show the curve of your arch.
  4. The toe close up. Fill the frame with your toes, focusing carefully so the nails are sharp.
  5. The lifestyle shot. Feet on a beach towel, in the grass or crossed on a sofa. These add variety and context to a gallery.

Props and themes buyers love

Props give you endless variation without needing new angles. Popular choices include heels, sandals, sneakers, socks and stockings, lotion or oil, jewellery such as anklets and toe rings, and seasonal themes. Grouping several photos around one theme makes a natural bundle you can sell as a set.

Edit lightly on your phone

A small amount of editing helps, too much hurts. Straighten the frame, crop out distractions, lift brightness a little and correct the colour if it looks too warm or too cool. Avoid heavy filters and skin smoothing, since buyers want photos that look real.

Video clips

Short clips often sell for more than photos. Prop your phone up so it is completely steady, use the same lighting rules as for photos, and keep clips short and simple. Slow, deliberate movement looks far better on camera than quick movement.

A quick pre-upload checklist

  • Is the photo sharp where it matters?
  • Is it bright enough without looking washed out?
  • Is the background plain and free of identifying details?
  • Is there a watermark on anything you are giving away as a free preview?
  • Is it tagged with the right categories?

Get these basics right and your gallery will already look better than most. When you are ready, here is how to get it live on Footley.
